I'm Renu

“Titiksha means accepting things as they come, calmly, without complaint.”

We named this house Titiksha. It's an old word — it means accepting things as they come, calmly, without complaint.

My family built this house in 2015 and we've lived here ever since. I started opening the rooms because it was too quiet and I like having people in it.

So this isn't a hotel and I don't run it like one. I'll make you tea when you arrive, and tell you which auto driver to trust and where to eat biryani that isn't for tourists.

Everything you see — the paintings, the brass, the swing in the purple room — we collected over the years. Nothing was bought to decorate a hotel.

If you're here for a hospital visit or a long work trip, you'll be looked after. It's just our house, and you're welcome in it.

The house is yours too

You're not confined to your room. There's a large sitting room with a marble floor where people end up talking in the evenings. A kitchen you're welcome to use. A dining table under a chandelier of glass birds. A yellow corner by the window that's the best place in the house for morning chai.
